Hand and upper extremity therapy includes the elbow, forearm, wrist, and hand. It is designed to ensure optimal restoration of the upper extremity post-injury or surgery. These injuries are treated by a Certified Hand Therapist (CHT), who are Occupational Therapists or Physical Therapists with specialized training specific to the hands and upper extremities, culminating in an additional certification. Hand therapists work with your medical provider to make your rehabilitation process as efficient and as effective as possible. CHTs are also trained in custom orthotic/splint fabrication, wound care, as well as both pain and edema management.

Hand and Upper Extremity Treatment will include a 1-on-1, private initial evaluation with a CHT. Therapy may include customized splinting, manual therapy such as soft tissue and joint mobilization, wound care, instruction inactivity modification, and joint protection techniques. Self-care techniques and a comprehensive individualized home therapy programs are essential components for long-term success.
