Vestibular Physical Therapy

An estimated 90 million people in America experience dizziness or vertigo in their lifetime. The most common type of vertigo is caused by a problem in the inner ear, known as Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV). The vestibular system is located behind the eardrum and is essential in controlling your balance. It gives the brain information regarding direction and speed of the head’s movements. The system works with your vision and sensation to control balance.

Vestibular Dysfunction includes symptoms of dizziness, vertigo, blurry vision with head movements and while reading, unsteadiness while walking or turning around, or difficulty turning in bed.

Commonly treated vestibular disorders include:

• BPPV
• Meniere’s Disease or Multiple Sclerosis
• Labyrinthitis
• Neuritis
• Acoustic Neuroma
• Superior Canal Dehiscence Syndrome
• Concussions and other balance disorders
